Join the Black Hawk County ISU Alumni Association for Cy Day of Service on Saturday morning, April 26. Black Hawk County 4-Hers and the Alumni Association are working together to positively impact our community.  Meet at the Cedar Valley Arboretum, 1927 E. Orange Road at 9 am.  We will disperse from there and then you choose your volunteer location:  Arboretum (general spring garden clean-up), Cedar Valley Food Bank (sorting and packing food materials), or Hartman Reserve Nature Center (mulching rails, debris pick up, etc.).  Bring the whole family and dress appropriately.  Done by 11:30 am.   Join us!

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has been positively identified in a residential tree in the city of Waterloo, the county seat of Black Hawk County, making this the eighth location where the invasive beetle has been found in Iowa. Black Hawk County Extension and Outreach is offering workshops designed to help Latino families work together to help youth succeed in school and to discover paths to higher education.  Trained team members are working to impact parents and their children by promoting high school graduation and exploring options for higher education.  Families with 8th, 9th and 10th grade students are encouraged to register for this no cost program.   Classes are held at the YWCA of Black Hawk County, 425 Lafayette Street.  Classes are offered in Spanish each Tuesday in April from 5 to 7 pm.  A family meal and childcare are provided.
