Young farmers who depend on pasture to support their livestock operation will benefit from attending the Grassroots Grazing program.  This three part program includes pasture walks at three different sites throughout the summer and will address setting livestock enterprise goals, selecting an appropriate grazing system, developing pasture improvement plans, managing grass height, results of adequate rest, fencing, watering, weed management and extending grazing. What: Outdoor Explorations for Early Learners
Description: This two-day outdoor education workshop is designed to help early childhood and early elementary professionals understand the importance of outdoor experiences for young children as well as equip these professionals with tools and strategies to engage children with nature. Teacher re-certification and DHS reg./lic. professional development credit available.
When: June 25 and 26, 2015
Cost: $175 (Teacher Re-cert is an additional $85) Cost includes Growing Up Wild book, Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood book, meals and snacks

Exhibitions of Birds Cancelled for 2015 Due to Avian Influenza.
Fairs, livestock auctions, swap meet and exotic sales will not include birds. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship announces an order to cancel all live bird exhibitions at county fairs, the Iowa State Fair and other gatherings of birds due to avian influenza.
