GINGER! "Growing fresh ginger in the greenhouse has been an easy learning experience. The plant needs indirect light, watering one to three times per week depending on the temperature, and a well-balanced fertilizer weekly in the spring and summer months, monthly in the winter. Attention 4-Her's! We''ll be having a Paint and Pizza at St. Paul's Methodist Church on Tuesday, Dec. 29th from 3:00-5:00pm. We'll have step by step instructions on "How to Paint Birch Trees" with a break for Pizza in the middle of the class! You don't need to be a great artist to attend. We'll have fun and learn lots! 28 Region 9 - 6th, 7th and 8th graders had a fun time Sept. 19 and 20th at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. They actually got to do a night hike, see an IMAX movie and sleep with the gorillas! Such a great trip that they want to plan another trip next year! Be watching for more info!

Thanks to all the 2,710 people who came out to make the 2015 STEM Festival a SUCCESS! And to all the 4-her's who stopped by and tried our experiments! And thanks to the Black Hawk County 4-H Lego Clubs for their displays, along with the Master Gardeners, FoodCorps and EPNEP. Lots of hand-on learning and fun took place! See photos!

FoodCorps service members Grace Rathert, Bobbi Jacobs and Laura McInerney picked 1100 apples in from Timeless Prairie Orchard in Buchanan County. These apples will be used in the nutrition program they help lead at Lowell, Kittrell, Highland, Lincoln, Irving, Becker, and Cunningham. This has been a great collaboration of the Health Department, Waterloo Schools food service, and FoodCorps stationed at ISU Extension. See photos!

Discovery Program to Teach Youth about Iowa Agriculture - 2015
Learning about Iowa and its agricultural heritage is the focus of the Discovery Program sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and National Cattle Congress. This year 830 second grade students and 203 teachers and adult volunteers from Waterloo, Cedar Falls and the surrounding communities representing 20 schools attended the Discovery Program during the National Cattle Congress Fair.
