"Certified commercial applicator" means a person, corporation, or employee of a person or corporation who enters into a contract or an agreement for the sake of monetary payment and agrees to perform a service by applying a pesticide but does not include a farmer trading work with another, a person employed by a farmer not solely as a pesticide applicator who applies pesticide as an incidental part of the person's general duties, or a person who applies pesticide as an incidental part of a custom farming operation. 4-H Dog Obedience Classes will begin Wednesday, May 6th at 6:00-7:00 pm at the Devonshire school parking lot until July 8th. Classes are free. There are no classes for Dog Agility this year, however you may still enter Dog Agility at fair. Please RSVP to wolfejd@iastate.edu

The course will provide continuing instructional credit for commercial pesticide applicators certified in category 11 and 10. Some of the topics to be covered include worker protection standards update, application technology for agricultural aircraft, fungicide, insecticide, and herbicide update, and handling pesticide containers. To obtain additional information about the CIC, contact Sheila Walitshek at the ISU Extension and Outreach office in Black Hawk County at319-234-6811.  The registration fee is $35.

4-7pm at the Waterloo Center for the Arts The training will certify participants in Ricochet 1 and Foundation. The training is open to anyone who is at least a sophomore in college and is an Extension employee or volunteer, 4-H leader, or a community member who is interested in youth development in the area of leadership. Download Registration Form or call the Black Hawk County Extension and Outreach Office, or by calling (319) 234-6811. Cost $75, Students (College Sophmore or older) $50. Additional $99 for printed book. Class does receive B&W copies of Ricochet 1.

Iowa 4-H is excited to announce the first annual bilingual/multi-cultural retreat for youth entering grades 9th through 12th in the 2015-2016 school year.  The retreat will be held May 15th-17th, 2015 at the 4-H Center in Madrid; with the arrival and departure occurring on the Iowa State University campus in Ames.  
 
Maize is designed to tap into Latino and Native American culture, history and achievements as an entry point into the 4-H Program Priorities: Healthy Living, STEM, Citizenship and Leadership, and Communications and the Arts.

All exhibitors showing beef including feeder calves, bucket/bottle calves, sheep dairy & meat goats and swine must tag their animals before May 15th, 2015. Tags are available at the Extension Office. Taggers may be checked out at the Extension Office. Then your ID must be entered in on 4-H Online by May 15th. See directions here.
