The market for livestock has been a bit of a rollercoaster over the last few years. Strong prices during 2014 and early 2015 have given way to lower prices that are more in line with what producers saw from 2010-13, says Lee Schulz, livestock economist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.
The publication Livestock Enterprise Budgets for Iowa – 2015 contains estimates of production costs for common livestock enterprises. The estimates are intended to reflect average or above-average levels of management using common types of technology.
As Lee Schulz made his way from home in central Wisconsin to college and to career, one thing was clear: there’s no place he’d rather be than working for a land grant university in the Midwest. He began his job as ISU Extension and Outreach livestock economist in early May.
