Last spring, Iowa families throughout the state gathered together –- virtually –- once a month for the Eco Family Conference from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The program is undergoing slight changes for its second year, and families can register now.

Kristi Cooper, family life specialist, shares tips families can follow in their home to help conserve water, reducing their usage and cost.

Feeding the soil through composting so it can feed food sources is the focus of the Virtual Eco Family Conference, “Compost 101: Food for the Food,” on June 7. The virtual workshop concentrates on composting basics for indoors and outdoors.

Learn how to emulate nature with permaculture during the May 3 Virtual Eco Family Conference taught by Fred Meyer, chair and executive director of Backyard Abundance. Meyer will teach about the principles of permaculture and how to mimic nature to produce food in small spaces.
