Golf registrations are coming in for the 2013 Lauren Christian Pork Chop Open, and Iowa State University animal science professor John Mabry reminded people of this year’s earlier date.

The Lauren Christian Pork Chop Open has some changes for its 2013 occasion, beginning with an earlier date on Wednesday, June 26, at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames, the day before Iowa State’s annual Iowa Swine Day.

Rodney "Butch" Baker will serve as interim director of the Iowa Pork Industry Center. He has been a senior clinician at the Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine department of Iowa State’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Just a few days remain for golfers to register to be assured of playing in the 2012 Lauren Christian Pork Chop Open. The annual event, set for Tuesday, July 24 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames, benefits the Lauren L. Christian Endowment, which provides financial support for students and continued swine and pork educational opportunities through Iowa State University.

The daylong educational opportunity designed specifically for pork producers is set for June 28 on the Iowa State campus, and features practical information on a variety of topics that can be applied on the farm.

Iowa Swine Day is set for June 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the ISU campus and features practical information on a variety of topics that can be applied on the farm.

With the registration deadline a week away, organizers of the Lauren Christian Pork Chop Open say a few team spots remain for the golf portion of the July 19 event. Anyone interested in attending the event needs to register by July 5.
