A little advanced planning goes a long way towards adding cheer instead of stress to the holidays, according to two human sciences specialists with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. Sometimes that philosophy can help people stretch their resources until the next paycheck arrives. However, a two-hour class from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach offers a better way to make the money last each month.

To help Iowans improve their financial future, ISU Extension and Outreach offers an online class, “Your Money Your Future,” the first Monday of each month. The next class is June 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Iowans are invited to join the conversation on MoneyTip$, a new blog from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The blog offers posts from ISU Extension and Outreach family finance specialists on topics such as long-term goals, day-to-day financial decisions, managing credit and getting ahead.

Sharpen Your Financial Coaching Skills, a course from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, is designed for volunteers, clergy and others working in nonprofit groups and organizations who assist people with financial management concerns. The next course begins in April at five locations in Iowa.

Learn what families can do to make their community’s schools more sustainable during the Virtual Eco Family Conference on March 1. The March session is the third in the online conference series from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

“When we love the place where we live, we take better care of it,” said Kristi Cooper, a family life specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. She will discuss how to develop a sense of place and build communities that connect people with nature during the Virtual Eco Family Conference on Feb. 2.

Iowa families throughout the state will be getting together — virtually — once a month from January through June for an Eco Family Conference from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. It’s an opportunity for families to improve the environment, reduce their carbon footprint and create community close to home.

The Connecting Families to the Environment Conference will help families learn how to improve their physical, mental and financial health by looking at the environment around them. The conference is Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Borlaug Learning Center located at the Iowa State University Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm near Nashua.
