Statewide Guide Training Workshops Enrolling Now

Registration is now open for statewide Guide Training workshops to be held in Pella on Sept. 28 and in Spencer on Oct. 6. This program was created for staff and volunteers who lead guided programs at Iowa’s cities and tourism attractions, including museums, nature areas, agritourism, city tours and historic sites.

2,642 Iowa 4-H Youth Displayed Projects at the Iowa State Fair

Nearly 3,200 static 4-H exhibits created by 2,642 youth exhibitors were displayed in the Bruce L. Rastetter 4-H Exhibits Building at the 2021 Iowa State Fair. Each exhibit is an outgrowth of year-long project area work done by the 4-H member.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. ISU Extension and Outreach offers Mental Health First Aid to help adults identify when someone might be struggling with mental health or substance use issues and how to assist in crisis and non-crisis situations.

Iowa Youth Present Innovative Ideas during AgOvation Finals

Three teams of 4-H youth from four Iowa counties showcased their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit during the third annual AgOvation program finals on Aug. 21. The research-based competition challenges youth to explore and develop innovative science-based solutions to agricultural problems that they identify in their own communities.

‘InterACT’ Program for Custodial and Foster Families

 “InterACT,” a free, educational workshop series hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, is open to grandparents, foster parents, and children in third through sixth grade who are being raised by grandparents or living in foster care. Online workshops begin in September and the registration deadline is Sept. 10.

Growing Together Iowa Receives $85,000 from Amerigroup for Statewide Community Garden Project Supplying Fresh Produce to Area Food Pantries

Growing Together Iowa, a donation gardening and nutrition education project from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, has received $85,000 from Amerigroup, a leading managed care company. The gift is supporting a statewide community garden initiative that will provide nearly 110,000 pounds of fresh produce to area food pantries.
