Cover Crop Field Day to Be Held Near Nashua Nov. 11

Iowa Learning Farms, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, and the Iowa Nutrient Research Center will host a cover crop field day focused on the potential for using perennial ground cover like Kentucky bluegrass, as well as cereal rye and early interseeded cover crop mixtures, in a corn system to reduce runoff, enhance soil organic matter and reduce nitrogen leaching.

Ambassadors Sought to Help Fight Chronic Wasting Disease in Iowa White-tailed Deer

Chronic Wasting Disease is 100% fatal in deer and has been found in wild deer in at least 10 Iowa counties. In an effort to better educate Iowans on how to manage deer and the spread of the disease, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is offering a new educational program called Chronic Wasting Disease Ambassadors in northeastern Iowa this fall.

Secretary Naig Announces New Farmer Mental Health Support Programs

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has been awarded a $500,000 grant to expand farmer mental health support programs in Iowa. IDALS will partner with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to help raise awareness about mental health and wellness resources, and help make them more accessible to farmers and rural communities.
