The kitchen is beginning to heat up as the June 30 application deadline draws nearer for the 2013 “Cook This!” 4-H Culinary Challenge. The Cook This competition provides the opportunity for youth in grades 5-12 to demonstrate their culinary skills and knowledge.

Eighteen 4-H scholarships have been awarded by Hills Bank and Trust Co. The company gave $1,000 leadership grants to Iowa students who completed a 4-H leadership program during their senior year of high school.

Fayette County’s senior Dairy Quiz Bowl team placed first in the annual 4-H Youth Dairy Quiz Bowl, June 6 in Arlington. The team will represent Iowa 4-H at the National 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl in Louisville, Ky., in November.

Fifty Iowa 4-H'ers have been selected to receive state 4-H project awards in 2013. More than 130 4-H youth applied for the awards this year, which are given to youth who have demonstrated mastery, leadership, communication and service in a specific project area.
