AMES, Iowa -- This summer the Iowa State University College of Design, in conjunction with ISU Extension and Outreach, is offering a variety of workshops for middle and high school students and two camp tracks for high school students.
The one-day Explore Design! and two-and-one-half day Design Innovation workshops are open to students entering sixth grade through recent high school graduates. A variety of workshops are planned throughout the month of June to introduce participants to a media and topics in art and design, as well as design careers.
Explore Design! workshops are $25 each and will be offered June 3, June 10 and June 17. All snacks, lunch and materials are provided. Design Innovation workshops are $75 each and will be offered June 4-6, June 11-13 and June 18-20. All snacks, meals, materials and transportation are provided. If a student registers for both workshops in a single week, the combined cost is $90. Special accommodations are available upon request for dietary or accessibility needs.

Participants will experience college life during Design Condensed, a one-week residential camp for students entering 10th grade through recent high school graduates. Students will spend their days in the College of Design taking a series of college-structured courses. They will spend their evenings at the Iowa 4-H Center in Madrid, participating in outdoor experiences and a variety of design activities.
Students may choose from two tracks. The camp takes place Sunday afternoon, June 22, through Saturday morning, June 28. Participants will check in Sunday afternoon at the Iowa 4-H Center for introductions and orientation activities. Beginning Monday morning, they will spend the week experiencing college life, creating hands-on design projects, and meeting college students and design professionals. The camp will culminate Saturday morning at the College of Design with a gallery show of the students’ work and a reception for family and friends.
Cost of the camp is $535, which includes all snacks, meals, transportation, art supplies, evening activities and lodging.
