Janke Joins ISU Extension and Outreach As Wildlife Specialist

Researcher comes to Ames after completing doctorate at South Dakota State

AdamJankeAMES, Iowa – Adam Janke joined Iowa State University Extension and Outreach as the extension wildlife specialist on May 1, 2016. He also will serve as an assistant professor in the university’s Natural Resources Ecology and Management department.

He has been certified as an associate wildlife biologist through The Wildlife Society.

Janke comes to Iowa State after completing his Doctorate of Philosophy in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences at South Dakota State University. He also holds a M.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife from Ohio State University and a B.S. in Wildlife from Purdue University.

Janke brings an extensive research background to his position, having completed graduate associate appointments at both Ohio State and South Dakota State. He has also published multiple peer-reviewed scientific articles on wildlife conservation in the Midwest.

His research and extension programs at Iowa State will seek to help Iowa landowners conserve wildlife on working lands, with a specific eye on managing habitat for game birds like quail, pheasants and ducks.  

During his first month with Iowa State, Iowans have been introduced to Janke by way of informative ISU Extension and Outreach articles about snakes and delayed mowing.
