MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – Crop and livestock producers can learn about drought-related issues and strategies to prepare for fall by attending either of two free informational meetings hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in southeast Iowa. Both meetings will be held on Friday, Aug. 10.
The first meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Pilot Grove Savings Bank Community Room located at 506 North Main Street in Donnellson, Iowa. The second meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Mediapolis High School Auditorium, located at 725 N. Northfield Street in Mediapolis, Iowa.
Virgil Schmitt, ISU Extension field agronomist , will discuss crop growth and development under drought conditions and potential harvest issues. Byron Leu, ISU Extension beef specialist, will discuss feeding drought damaged crop. Jim Jenson, ISU Extension economist, will speak on financial farm management considerations. Joseph Portz, county executive director with Farm Service Agency, will discuss government crop programs, and a representative of the crop insurance program will discuss issues pertaining to insurance.
