AMES, Iowa – The early bird discount for registration for the Iowa 4-H Center summer camp sessions is open now until April 1, says Abbie Parker, program specialist at the Iowa 4-H Center near Madrid.
“The 4-H Center offers the camping experience of a lifetime for youth ages 6 -17,” Parker said. There are several camping options: half week camps, family camps, specialty full week camps, outdoor adventure camps and leadership camps.
“Each camp has its own special focus,” said Parker. “The all-camp activities allow campers to participate in large group ceremonies, meals, morning huddle and afternoon swimming at the camp’s Junior Olympic-sized pool. Each evening, campers participate in campfire programs, a 4-H challenge, pool party, camp dance or skit night. Camp is a wonderful time for youth to let loose and have fun with each other and our excellent staff.”
According to research by Michael Ungar, author and university professor at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, camps help children develop greater coping strategies if they provide seven things all kids need:
“Camping at the Iowa 4-H Center is a great opportunity for children to spend time outdoors and experience an adventure away from home, all while making friends and memories to last a lifetime,” said Parker. “We strive to provide valuable and fun experiences for our campers.”
Scholarships and stipends are available to help offset the costs of camp, along with the early bird discount. Register online at the Iowa 4-H Center website.
