Iowa Horse Jamboree March 24-25, 2012!
Do you like horses? Do you want to learn about them or share your knowledge with others? Consider taking part in the Iowa 4-H Horse Jamboree that will be held in Ames March 24-25, 2012. You don't have to have a horse to take part in the fun. Competitions include hippology, quiz bowl, public speaking, photography, horse clothing, drawing, painting, essay, short story and so much more!
Also this year there will once again be a tack swap and a silent auction.
Entries must be postmarked by March 1, 2012.

Iowa Horse Council Cowgirl Queen Contest
Iowa Horse Council would like to invite you to send a Cowgirl Queen to the Iowa Horse Fair Cowgirl Queen Contest. Iowa Horse Council is holding an Iowa Horse Fair Cowgirl Queen Contest on Sunday, April 1, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Each Queen Contest must have a sponsoring club and 4H clubs are eligible. IHC will have some great prizes and everyone will do the salute. It will be different than the Iowa State Fair Contest because we are judging the contestants in four areas :

1) Written Test (similar to Hippology test)

2) Appearance/Beauty

3) Horsemanship

4) Salute

Each contestant will be judged and scored in all areas. The contestant with the best score wins. I am sending you attachments for the entry form and info on how they will be judged. Please pass this information to all of your 4H clubs. It is open to the first 34 contestants in each age group and the entry deadline is February 15.

*Horse Hair Bracelet Workshop Saturday, March 24, 1:00 p.m.– 3:00 p.m., Extension Office. The cost for this workshop is $5 per bracelet, supplies will be provided. You must RSVP to this event by March 21. Class size is limited.
*Spring meeting Thursday, April 12, 6:30 p.m., Extension Office. Details to be posted in upcoming newsletters.

Family Involvement:  We encourage families to attend the workouts with their children.  We want you to be able to support your children’s interests, and learning along with them is the best way to do this.  The Allamakee County 4-H Horse Project is a Fun Family affair!
