owa State University Extension and Outreach Allamakee County hosted Fizz, Bubble, Goo Day Camp on June 23 at the Postville YMCA and on June 25 at the Lansing City Park from 9 am -3 pm for youth in kindergarten through third grade.

A research project by FFI and ISU Extension investigated the effectiveness of a cycle menu featuring Iowa-grown foods to increase local food purchases by schools. By the end of the project, local food purchases by four school districts increased 158 percent in two years.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Allamakee County office is hosting the sixth annual “Growing Season”webinar series at Waukon, Iowa, during {July and August}. Gardeners will learn about creative ideas for theme gardens, planting trough gardens, water features and conservation, attracting butterflies and bees, and growing herbs.

Over the past several years, NICC and the Northeast Iowa Dairy Foundation have installed a variety of conservation practices including bioswale, conservation plantings, shelterbelts, native trees, butterfly garden, storm water wetlands, grassed waterways, sediment basin, cover crops, infiltration trench, enhanced rain garden, permeable pavers and sediment basin. View these practices in person at a Conservation Tour on July 22.

Become an Iowa Master Gardener by completing the core training course this fall at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Allamakee County office.  Gardeners will learn best practices for choosing plants, designing gardens, and managing pests. Classes start in September.
