Odor Control for Dry Manure Land Application Practices - Incorporation

Pro Con
Nutrient conservation Soil disruption is a concern in sensitive areas
Cost efficient for emission control gained Effectiveness is limited after 24 hours following application

Incorporating manure shortly after surface application can best prevent odorous emissions that occur as result of land application. Field tests in Iowa demonstrate odor reduction ranging from 50 to 75 percent with injection as compared to broadcast application. Based on these reports, greater benefits can be realized by incorporating manure after broadcast application.
