Hydrogen sulfide forms when manure is stored anaerobically. During the decomposition process, malodorous (offensive odors), intermediate compounds are produced and can accumulate if insufficient populations of bacteria that degrade these compounds are present. The options listed below contain the recommended management practices that can be employed to reduce the emission of hydrogen sulfide from manure storage facilities.
