UNIVERSITY RECOMMENDATIONS ON AIR QUALITY TO BE PRESENTED AT EPC MEETING FEB. 18

DES MOINES - The Environmental Protection Commission will consider recommendations to set ambient air quality standards for concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) at their Feb. 18, 2002, meeting to be held in the auditorium of the Wallace Building in Des Moines.

At 1 p.m. Dean James A. Merchant, University of Iowa; and Dean Catherine E. O'Connor Woteki, Iowa State University, will present the results of a study requested by Gov. Tom Vilsack in June of 2001. The universities were asked to address the public health and environmental impacts of CAFOs.

The Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement have an appointment to speak at 2 p.m. and Iowa Select Farms is scheduled to speak at 2:30 p.m.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m. and public participation is scheduled for 10:30. The meeting is open to the public.
