Setting Up Sprayers for Fungicide Application

Greg Brenneman, Ag Engineering Field Specialist, Southeast

Problem Statement
With possibility of Asian Soybean Rust spreading to Iowa now that it has been found in the US, producers have had many questions on what is the correct way to set up sprayers for applying foliar fungicides.
Programmatic Response
In the spring of 2005, training sessions on fungicide application were conducted in Appanoose Co, at the SE Iowa Ag Research Association annual meeting, and at the FEEL lab in Ames.  Spray table demonstrations were incorporated into the training showing applicators the importance of proper nozzles and spray application.
The Asian Rust Sprayer Clinics contacted 45 producers representing about 60-70,000 acres.  In addition, 50 Certified Crop Advisors were also reached with this information with the potential to affect application on 500,000 acres.
