Many citizens of Iowa frequently cook barbecued meats. It is important that these individuals know how to properly prepare barbecue from both a quality and food safety perspective.
Inform participants how to properly prepare barbecue meats.
Approximately 75 people participated in the BBQ Spring Training Camp held May 7, 2005 at the ISU Meat Laboratory. Participants included both individuals and commercial food preparers. The activity was co-sponsored by the Iowa Barbeque Society. Topics covered included; food safety, wood and charcoal, whole pig roasting, BBQ fire safety, BBQ cookery and BBQ sausage.
Participants learned how to properly prepare barbecue meats from both a quality and food safety perspective. Commercial companies learned techniques to improve the quality and safety of products they serve to the public.
