Ventilation Workshops for Pork Producers

Russ Euken, livestock field specialist.

Producers with confinement buildings are often not trained in ventilation principals and operating the systems in the buildings. An educational ventilation workshop was planned and developed by four states: Iowa State University, South Dakota State University, University of Nebraska, and University of Minnesota.

The workshop was scheduled for three locations in the area. One of these was specifically for a group of employees for a large swine production company. This is a group that we typically donítí reach. 42 people attended in total with the majority from the larger company.

Those attending worked with or managed approximately 6.5 millon grow finish pigs per year and 260,000 sows. Most reported a benefit gained of some to quite a lot. The average operational value gained from the meeting was $2,785 per person.
