Problem Statement
Four new ethanol plants began operation in the counties I serve in the past year. Livestock producers are interested in using distillers grains from the ethanol plant as a feed source.
Programmatic Response
Three meetings were scheduled in conjunction with the area ethanol plants to discuss availability of distillers grains, potential uses and economics of the products. The plants helped finance the meetings.
Impact/Outcome
Nine producers indicated an economic impact of $3550 in their operation because of the information learned from the meetings. All those responded indicated they learned more about distillers and feeding distillers grains in the ration. 8 producers who had not used the product before indicated they would use it in the future.
