Producers Benefit From Grid Marketing and Carcass Analysis Meetings

Grid Marketing and carcass analysis are and will continue to be an important part of the cattle business. All segments of the cattle industry will need to know how to use these tools to remain competitive.


Several meetings were held around the state to assist in helping cattle producers better understand grid marketing and carcass analysis data. A presentation and worksheets were developed to cover such topics such as quality grades, yield grades and marbling scores. Also, a presentation was designed to look at the pros and cons of grid marketing and how grid marketing can help or hurt a cattle operation profit potential.

A registration fee of $10 was charged. Preregistration was required to verify a minimum audience number. Two meetings were held in the central Iowa area and were promoted as multi-county events. The meeting took place in Grinnell, January 17 and Perry, January 24, 2002. An evaluation was mailed to participants in July 2002 to assess impacts.
