Situation
The fast growing and new Iowa grape and wine industry needs continued training and experience in viticulture and enology.
Response
Mike White, crops field specialist, organized a field trip to the Southwest Missouri University Horticulture Research Farm - Viticulture and Enology Annual Field Day held on June 20, 2002. This research farm has been doing viticulture research since 1899 and wine making research since 1980. The field day consisted of a half-day conference followed by field tours of the viticulture plots, research winery and a spirit distillation facility.
Impact
Nine Iowans involved with grape and wine production attended the Viticulture & Enology Annual Field Day. They gained invaluable information and were introduced to many industry and academic contacts for future reference.
