Success of Ag Decision Maker

Situation

Redeveloping the Ag Decision Maker (AgDM) web site to make it more user-friendly and look similar to other Extension web sites.

Objective

To increase the use of the AgDM web site, add new features and include suggestions made by users of the site.

Activities/Output

A design was developed for all AgDM Decision Tools so that users will see a familiar look for each spreadsheet they download. The Decision Tools look coordinates with the new look of the web site to match other Extension sites.

Impact/Outcomes

Web site visits have increased 40% over the past 2 years. A survey conducted in 2005 included comments on ease of use of the web site, information being current and dependable because it’s from Iowa State University Extension, and that the information was often taken from the web site and passed on through client meetings. Information from the leasing section had a direct impact on the relationships between landlords and leasors, regarding rental rates and types of rental agreements. Those surveyed reported that they avoided losses and felt more capable in making decisions that impacted their families and businesses.
