Landscaping Workshop

Beverly Peters, Franklin County Extension Education Director and Jackie Dohlman, Franklin County Master Gardener/Youth Coordinator, Northeast Area

Problem:

There is growing popularity by people wanting to landscape their own properties, but not having the skills, resources, or time to travel a distance to attend a landscaping workshop.

Response:

A three-hour landscaping workshop was held in Hampton on March 17.  Two local landscaping businesses and a water garden expert were the speakers for the program.  Participants paid $10 to hear water gardening expert Jamie Beyer from Ames, Becky Litterer from Dougherty, and Randy Westhoff from Hampton provided information and resources on landscaping.

Impact:

Fifty people attended.  Participants asked the experts many questions, received take home information and door prizes, and made contacts that would help them with their projects.  The participants commented that they appreciated getting to ask questions and meet other gardeners in the area.  Future landscaping workshops are planned to address needs expressed by participants.
