Areas of Expertise:
Livestock management including enterprise records and ISU Computer Decision-Making Aids such as the Beef and Swine Feedlot Monitoring programs, Budget & Projection programs and CHAPS. Animal nutrition, including sampling and testing of feedstuffs and use of ISU Ration Balancing programs. Integration of livestock enterprises into the total farm unit through farm visits and one-on-one consultations. Genetic evaluation, including steer tests, Tri-County Steer Carcass Futurity & Page Center Steer Test. Carcass & ultrasound data collection, interpretation and presentation for producers, 4-H, FFA and parents. During 1995, carcass data collected on over 3000 cattle, 700 lambs and 700 pigs. Livestock facilities and environment including design, ventilation, fencing, water systems and equipment. Conduct applied research and demonstrations such as selenium for beef grazing beef cattle, waxy corn for feedlot cattle, implant strategies, heat stress in feedlot cattle, fly control for beef cows and swine mange control.
