Swine Tagged for Adair County Fair

Adair County 4-H swine project area is growing. Adair County 4-H and FFA members tagged 167 pigs, up 30 head from last year, as part of the countywide tagging. These pigs are now eligible to exhibit at the 2012 Adair County Fair. The county fair swine show is slated for Thursday, July 19th. 

 

Thirty-four youth identified pigs, six more than in 2011. Youth tagging pigs included:  Brad Baudler, Joe and Annie Herr, Taylor Brown, Messina Miller, Alex  Welsch, and Dean Frank, Fontanelle; Zach and Hannah Jorgensen, Matthew Noland,  and Josh Irlmeier, Adair; Alyssa Christensen, Laura Walker, Charlie Ruhland, and Tim and Sara Beane, Stuart; Nathan Venteicher, and Matthew, Kyra, and Alan Evans, Bridgewater; Bailee Huddleson, and Mark Cooley, Orient; Beau and Reagan Weinheimer, Greenfield; Ashley West, Tom and Katie Walter, Prescott; Jacob and Cody Mertz, Redfield; and Halee Wallace, Heath, Kysa, and Chisum Downing, Creston.

 

Besides tagging pigs, volunteers weighed 53 entries, up 13 entries from last year, for the annual performance contest sponsored by the Adair County Pork Producers. Entries in the performance contest are placed on lean gain per day on test which takes into account both the rate of gain and carcass merit. Carcass merit is determined using ultrasound.

 

Volunteers responsible for tagging and weighing pigs included Brian Rohrig, Orient; Nick and Paisley Kintigh; Andrew Noland, and Hank Bohling, Greenfield; Dan Westphal, Bridgewater; Dick and Donna Wallace, Orient; Tom Walter, Prescott; and Chisum and Heath Downing, Creston.
