SOFA XVIII Heads to Nebraska
The SOFA XVIII bus is filling up! One- half of the seats are taken.
SOFA XVIII is an excellent opportunity for 7th -12th graders from Adair and other area counties to learn more about agriculture careers in an exciting overnight trip on June 12 & 13th to Nebraska with stops in Omaha, Lincoln, and Grand Island.
Major stops include: Farm Credit Services of America where you will work with the public relations department to learn more about product branding and marketing; The University of Nebraska, Lincoln with hands-on workshops in agribusiness, ice cream production, meat science and natural resources plus a campus tour; Case IH combine factory where we’ll see construction of combines, and the technology used to build the machines; and a horse training center in Crete.
Cost is $30 for Adair County 7th – 12th graders; that includes students in Nodaway Valley, Orient-Macksburg, Adair-Casey, and West Central Valley school districts. Forty spots will be filled on first come first served basis. The SOFA planning committee is also offering a special job shadowing experience for 10th-12th graders interested in exploring a career in agriculture. You complete a survey with your interests and you’ll be matched up with an individual in that field. The job shadow experience may range from a couple of hours to a full-day.
