Results of the 2012 Adair County 4-H and FFA Livestock Performance Contests Announced
Matthew Noland of Adair claimed first place in the Adair County 4-H and FFA Swine Performance Show with his 294 pound entry. Entries are placed on the basis of lean gain per day on test. His hog had a loin muscle area of 8.64 square inches compared to the contest average of 7.57 and produced 1.079 pounds of lean gain since weigh-in. Noland is the son of Carey and Teresa Noland.
Reserve honors in the contest went to Beau Weinheimer of Greenfield. He earned second place with his 244 pound hog which gained 1.79 pounds per day on test. His entry had a 9.89 square inch loin muscle area and produced 1.034 pounds of lean gain since weigh-in.
Halee Wallace of Creston claimed 3rd place in the contest sponsored by the Adair County Pork Producers. Also winning cash prizes were Bailee Huddleson of Van Meter with her 4th place entry and Brad Baudler of Fontanelle with his 5th place entry.

Halee Wallace of Creston earned the top prize in the 4-H/FFA Lamb Performance Show at the Adair County Fair. Her 112 pound entry produced .327 pounds of boneless retail cuts per day on feed. The lamb actually gained .88 pounds per day on feed and had a 3.29 square inch rib eye area. Halee is the daughter of Doug and Julie Wallace.
Gunnar Dinkla of Casey claimed reserve honors with his 150 pound lamb. His entry produced .309 pounds of boneless retail cuts per day on feed.

The contest is sponsored by the First National Bank of Fontanelle, Greenfield, Massena, Anita, and Correctionville. Trophy for the contest was sponsored by Redman Construction, James Mitchell of Greenfield.
Millie Varley of Stuart won the individual beef performance division and the junior feeder pen performance division at the Adair County Fair. She captured the overall individual competition with her pen steer that weighed 1440 pounds at the fair and gained 4.34 pounds per day on test. Her entry graded low choice and had a yield grade of 1 with a rib eye area of 15.2. It produced $5.694 of retail value per day on feed. Millie is the daughter of Warren and Karen Varley.
Cody Tanner of Greenfield claimed the next four spots in the individual competition. Cody took the reserve champion honors with his choice entry which produced $5.269 of retail value per day on feed. Millie and Cody earned special premiums provided by the Adair County Cattlemen for their entries.
Topping the open class beef performance competition was Ben Varley of Stuart. His 1382 pound entry graded choice + and was a USDA yield grade 2. It had a carcass value of $190/cwt to earn the championship spot. Eric Gross of Fontanelle earned the runner-up honors in the open class division.
Other entries in the Open Class Division included: Pine View Angus, Stuart; Charles Varley, Stuart; and Evan Varley, Menlo.
Results of the pen performance competition: Millie Varley – 1st place; Cody Tanner – 2nd place; and Grant Dudley – 3rd place.
