Complete Adair County Emergency Volunteer Survey

Dear Adair County Resident,

Adair County is filled with generous people. When there is a fire, it is volunteer firefighters who take action. A volunteer first responder may be the first to arrive on the scene of a medical emergency. If our community is faced with a disaster, we know it will take professional emergency workers partnering with community volunteers to speed recovery efforts.

Adair County Emergency Management Agency is partnering with Adair County Public Health and Adair County Extension to assemble a “Community Skills and Interests” database of potential volunteers in Adair County.  This database will be used to call upon volunteers in disaster situations.  By knowing more about your interests, we are better able to match the requests from nonprofit and governmental organizations with individual volunteer's interests.

You might wonder what this is all about; here are some examples:
• An emergency shelter may need help preparing and serving food.
• A library may need help moving due to storm damage.
• A city may need assisstance with clearing debris outside.
• In the case of an evacuation, emergency management may need assisstance filling out forms, entering data, and filing forms.

As you know, during disaster situations, there are many things that need to be done.  While the more dangerous duties will be performed by trained emergency personnel, there is a need for many other roles such as answering phones, and clean up work just to name a few.

If you would be willing to help make a difference in a disaster situation, we need contact information along with the type of tasks you would consider doing. You can provide this information by clicking on the link at the top of this page and completing the short survey.By completing the survey you are not committing to any volunteer work at this time.  If contacted in a disaster, you can decline the request to volunteer. We hope we never have to call on you, but we all know disasters happen; so it is important to have a list of willing volunteers to contact if and when the need arises.  This information will be kept confidential and will only be shared with the organizations that may utilize your talents and skills during disaster situations.

If you have questions or concerns about the volunteer survey, feel free to contact Bethany Kintigh,  Adair County Public Health Coordinator, at 641-743-6173 or bkintigh@adaircountyhomecare.org ; or Deb Hall, Adair County Extension Education Director, at 641-743-8412 or 1-800-ISUE399 or debhall@iastate.edu ; or Robert Kempt, Adair County Emergency Management Coordinator, at 641-332-3030 or gcema@hotmail.com .

Thank you for your help in making Adair County a great place to live.
