2009-10 Preschool Tuition Assisstance Application

Tuition Assisstance Schedule

News Release – June 19, 2009
Preschool Scholarships Available for Adair County Children

Tuition assistance, in the form of FACT Empowerment need-based scholarships, is available for Adair County children enrolling in preschool this fall. A child must reside within Adair County and be at least three-years-old and no older than five to be eligible.  Children must enroll in a preschool served by the FACT Empowerment area that has achieved or is working towards a quality rating.

Need-based assistance is based on gross household income. Families whose gross income is at 200% of poverty or below are eligible for the program. For example, a family of four with a gross income of $44,100 per year would be eligible for a partial scholarship. Foster children automatically qualify for tuition assistance.

The availability of voluntary preschool within the Adair-Casey, Nodaway Valley, Orient-Macksburg, and West Central Valley school districts slightly alters the scholarship program.  Four-year-olds must first take advantage of the free voluntary preschool, provided slots are available.   Children attending voluntary preschool offered free of charge through their school district may apply for a scholarship to enroll in an additional preschool experience offered by either a private preschool or by the school district. In the case of Nodaway Valley, scholarships can be awarded to cover the cost of the afternoon session.

The FACT Empowerment Board anticipates that there will be enough resources to also provide tuition assistance for 3-year-olds. Both Little Lambs Preschool in Greenfield and B-F Prekindergarten in Bridgewater meet the quality standards required of participating preschools.

Applications for assistance will be processed beginning on July 15th. Parents of preschoolers who have not already completed the application or provided income verification are encouraged to do so by Monday, July 6th.  Applications are available from participating preschools and the Adair County Extension office in Greenfield or online at www.extension.iastate.edu/adair/news/earlychildeducation.htm  . The one page application needs to be returned with page 1 of the family’s 2008 Federal Income Tax Return. If a family did not file a tax return, alternative proof of income is allowed.
