Peanut Butter Milk Cup Drink

Kelsie C. and Alyse H. both of Fontanelle are SW Iowa 4-H Food and Fitness Ambassadors. The group of teens from across the area are in the process of developing materials for 4-H clubs, classrooms, and other youth organizations that promote food and fitness. The two Adair County 4-H'ers along with Amy W. of Anita and Tasia B. of Cumberland are providing leadership for a sub-group looking at ways to increase the calcium intake of teens. National statistics show that many children and teens are not consuming enough calcium. During the pre-teen and teen years (9-18 years old) the recommended calcium intake is 1300 mg per day or approximately 4 servings of calcium rich foods per day. Drinking milk is one of the easiest ways to meet the requirement.

The calcium team is in the process of testing calcium rich recipes that are also low in fat and sugar, developing program ideas, and suggesting related leadership and citizenship activities for teens to complete. They’ve already tested many simple recipes including the Peanut Butter Milk Cup that they served to a recent training for the Ambassador team.

Kelsie C. found the recipe for this simple flavored milk drink on whymilk.com and tested it.  Making the flavored milk recipe is easy and offers a change of pace. Combine 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter, 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup, and 1 cup milk in the blender. Blend until smooth and serve.
