Adair County 4-H’ers recognized Teresa Scheel of Fontanelle and Janna Nelson of Menlo as the 2006 4-H Alumni Award recipients at their Awards Day program Sunday, November 12th. Teresa’s 4-H career began as a member of the Jackson Happy Hustlers 4-H Club in Shelby County and the Shelby County Boots and Saddles Club. She also served on the Shelby County
4-H Youth Council. She has given countless hours to the Adair County 4-H program using her knowledge to help 4-H’ers learn new horsemanship skills as the countywide 4-H horse project leader and county fair superintendent. Teresa also judges 4-H horse shows around the state and is a member of the Adair County Fair Board.
Janna Nelson was a member of the Jefferson Jolly Makers as she grew up in the Menlo area.
While in 4-H, she served as the president of her club and completed projects in clothing, home improvement, citizenship, and food and nutrition. As an adult, Janna served as a volunteer leader for the Jefferson Pioneers. She has also been a member of the Adair County Extension Council where she advocated for strong youth programs. Janna and her husband, Daryl, have two sons, Chris and Trevor. Both of their sons were active members of the Jefferson Pioneers and the Adair County Youth Council.
Farmers & Merchants State Bank, Winterset-St. Charles-Orient, and Agriland FS Foundation, Winterset, Canby, and Orient, were honored as Friends of 4-H. Bill Dickey, Vice-president, was on hand to accept the recognition for Farmers & Merchants State Bank. Kaye Klemish accepted the Friends of 4-H award for Agriland FS Foundation.
Awards of the Clover were presented to volunteers for length of service. The Silver Clover for five years of service to 4-H went to Carol Baudler, Velma Blazek, and Tammie Cass, all of Fontanelle; and Cath Howe, Greenfield. Annette Varley, Menlo, received the Pearl Clover for fifteen years of service. The Award of the Diamond Clover for twenty years of service was presented to Ron Brownlee, Orient; and Dan Westphal, Bridgewater. The Clover Awards are sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. Kathy Rohrig, Adair County Farm Bureau President, presented the Awards of the Clover.
