4-H Youth Council Plans Bake Sale

The Adair County 4-H Youth Council will host a bake sale on Saturday, February 13th at Pamida in Greenfield. They will begin selling at 9 a.m. and continue until 11 a.m. or whenever they run out of food, whichever comes first. This experienced group of teen bakers is planning to offer traditional Valentine treats including cakes, cookies, pies, and candies.

4-H friends, parents, grandparents, leaders, and 4-H alumni are invited to become fans of Adair County 4-H and Youth Programs on facebook.com If we have 250 fans by February 22nd each current Adair County 4-H member will receive $1.00 off the $30 state program development fee.

Rumble Tumble Night

Kids and parents had fun developing gross motor skills at Rumble Tumble Night. If you missed this event, you can request a great hand-out on gross motor skills development packed full of ideas to do at home. Vet Med Workshop Scheduled

7th - 12th graders interested in finding out about careers in veterinary medicine will want to sign-up for this workshop scheduled for Saturday, February 27th in Ames. The day will be full of workshops including suturing, anatomy, parasitology, and physical examinations.

Help Endow Kelly Laughery Community Service Scholarships

Each year Adair County 4-H’ers are recognized for their community service work with college scholarships. The scholarships are named in honor of the late Kelly Laughery. A special endowment has been established to ensure the continuation of this program. To date, $21,965. has been raised. Additional gifts are welcome. Iowa residents can also qualify for a 25% tax credit for gifts made in 2010. Checks can be made payable to the Kelly Laughery Adair Co Scholarship Endow Iowa Fund and sent to the Adair County Extension office at 202 South 1st Street, Suite B, Greenfield, IA 50849

2009 Soybean and Corn Crop Performance Test Results now available

Results of the 2009 Iowa Soybean and Corn Performance Tests conducted by the Iowa Crop Improvement Association are now available online at www.croptesting.iastate.edu or at the Adair County Extension office. Tests are completed in each of the six crop districts in the state and provide value, not only concerning yields but also in areas such as maturity, lodging, disease resistance, and protein content.

Emergency Management personnel need to be able to quickly assess a situation and to quickly activate volunteers. Agriculture: Food and Jobs

Iowa agriculture puts healthy, affordable food choices on the table of today’s consumers and it boosts county and state economies, according to a recently-completed economic analysis sponsored by the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF). Production agriculture and ag-related industries directly and indirectly employ one of every six Iowans (or 17 percent of the state’s workforce), based on 2007 Census of Agriculture data. Family Storyteller a Big Hit

Family Storyteller a Big Hit
Twelve families completed the Family Storyteller series at the Greenfield Library. The six week program is focused on building the early literacy skills of preschool age children though family reading and fun time. The program was sponsored by Growing Strong Families, an initiative of Adair County Extension, with funding support from the Creston Cluster Decat and FACT Empowerment. A monthly book club has been established in Adair County for graduates of the Family Storyteller program.
