Beckman of Iowa State College was one of the six founding agricultural editors who met during July 1913 to discuss a topic of mutual interest -- the potential for providing information services to newspapers and farm periodicals. He then served as program chairman for a second conference (in June 1914) that led to formation of a permanent organization, the American Association of Agricultural College Editors, in 1915.
