Yes! The canes of red and
black raspberry are biennial. The first year the canes grow vegetatively
and are called primocanes. The second year they produce a crop and
the cane dies back to the ground. The root system of the raspberry plant
is perennial. Fall-bearing red raspberries will produce a crop on the
tips of the primocanes in the fall and another crop on the fruiting canes
the second year.
