Answers to Lawn and Garden Quiz

Yes! The canes of red and black raspberry are biennial. The first year the canes grow vegetatively and are called primocanes. The second year they produce a crop and the cane dies back to the ground. The root system of the raspberry plant is perennial. Fall-bearing red raspberries will produce a crop on the tips of the primocanes in the fall and another crop on the fruiting canes the second year.
