Answers to the Fire Safety Quiz

Yes! You are correct.

Actually, all of these are major causes of fire during the holiday season. Keep cut trees well watered. If they dry out, they can be ignited by a hot light bulb or short circuit and burn like a blow torch.

Turn all decorations off when leaving home or retiring for the evening. If a fire starts when you are home and awake, you can detect it before it is too late.

Do not use adapters to increase the number of cords you can plug in. You are running a serious risk of overloading the electrical circuit and starting a fire!

Check your lights and cords. If they do not carry the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) listing, they may not be safe. Remember, even if the cord has a UL listing, it has defined limits on the load it can carry. Read the cord labeling to identify the load it will carry; then, don't exceed that limit!
