Morels, false morels,
and other cup fungi

A pleasant madness affects many people in April and May. They take to the woods with bags or baskets, searching for the tasty morels, also commonly known as sponge mushrooms.

ISU Extension Publication PM 1204, Morels, false morels, and other cup fungi, can teach you

  • how to identify morels, false morels, saddle fungi, and other large cup fungi using color photographs and detailed descriptions,
  • which of these species are edible and which are not, and
  • how to safely eat them.

Available for $3.00 from Iowa State University Extension. Ask for PM 1204.
