The meeting was called to order at
Kelvin Leibold moved to approve the minutes as written, seconded by Kapil Arora. Motion carried.
The treasurer’s report was presented by Joel DeJong. Linda Engelken-Fischer moved to approve the treasurer’s report, seconded by John Holmes. Motion carried.
Membership reports were given by area:
The Wisconsin BBQ committee co-chairs, Linda and Dan, reported that many compliments on our BBQ were received. Best story reported from an elderly couple as they were leaving, when asked what they thought of the meal: “The food was from Heaven” the gentleman reported, but his wife replied, “But the music was from Hell!” True story.
Costs of the meal were $6973.98 – and it was thought that
almost all costs were included in this except maybe the piano rental. This was slightly over budget. Costs equaled about $4 per person. $1000 came from Iowa Pork Producer
Association, 500# of beef brisket was donated by American Food Croup, 1800 ice
cream treats were donated by Wells Blue Bunny, others included Sterzing Potato Chips,
Linda presented Dan Burkhart with a clock to commemorate his time as NC Regional Director. Well done, Dan!
Wendy Wintersteen answered question from the group, including
staff disconnect, the corn specialist position, and training in Ag for CEEDs. Upon his
arrival, Donald Lewis answered the remaining questions. He thanked the group for calendar use, and
for completing activity reports that were due on Sept 1. He explained that our budget shortfall was
met through using revenue generation dollars from the last two years. But that use creates a challenge for
shortfall management for next year.
Other financial questions were asked, too.
President Wrage reported that the
NACAA delegates approved a $10 increase in national dues starting this next
year. This led to a budget discussion,
with a proposal given to the members in attendance. The budget proposed had expenses of $7100 for
the next year, and moved dues up to $75 per year (the same as we were paying;
only the $65 dues plus $10 for the

won the national Pinnacle Humanitarian Award at
A spring raffle will again be held. It should be noted that proceeds from the raffle will be needed to balance this next year’s Iowa NACAA budget. Kapil Arora volunteered to lead this effort.
Suggestions for a summer tour were discussed. Linda moved to pursue a day at the FEEL lab for training in lieu of a traditional tour. Greg Brenneman seconded this motion, and it passed. John Holmes and Rich Wrage will take leadership on this.
Committee reports given:
Communications – Chizek (also had a written report) –noted that Wallaces Farmer supplied $250 for awarded this past year.
4-H And Youth - Dale Miller – Two
Iowa 4-Her’s were featured at the
Public Relations - Cummins (written) – Bob Behnkendorf won the PRIDE award.
Recognition and Awards – Derdzinski
– Greg Brenneman and Kelvin Leibold
won DSA Awards in
Scholarship – Wrage – no scholarships awarded to Iowans this year.
Horticulture – Loenser – reported that Ron Bower attended the RISE study tour.
PR And Ag Issues – Johnson – noted that this group will work on the Iowa Young Farmer project. Nominees are requested!
Early Career Development – Miller – discussed the mentoring web site.
Joel presented Rich Wrage with a plaque thanking him for his work the past year as Iowa NACAA Section Chair.
