It was moved by Ralph Mayer and 2nd by John Creswell to approve the minutes as posted on the IACAA homepage. Motion carried. Jack Van Laar moved to approve the treasurer's report as presented by Kelvin Leibold. Rich Wrage seconded the motion and it passed.
Leibold gave the membership report which included 79 members and one more potential. New members were introduced. NC introduced Bob Behnkendorf, Kossuth CEED. It was noted that Gary Fike had transferred to the great NW. The SW welcomed Alan Jensen, CRD, Tom Jensen, CEED W Pot, and Bud Beedle, E Pot.. Central had nothing new. NE introduced Joe Dever, CEED at Dubuque. The SE introduced a hort intern with Bob Dodds - Pivica Ransom. EC had nothing new to report.
The nominating committee gave their report. They recommended Kelvin Leibold for President, Pat Derdzinski for President-elect, and Gary Fike for Secretary-Treasurer elect. Kelvin Leibold, Jack Van Laar, Pat Derdzinski, Gary Bickmeier and Neil Wubben were nominated as delegates to the national conference. George Cummins moved nomination cease and Linda Engelken Fischer seconded. Motion carried.
Wayne Kobberdal introduced Gary Zoubeck. Gary Zoubek requested help with the national conference to be held in Nebraska. It was noted that it costs about $150,000 to host a meeting. They are trying to schedule about 25 tours with possibly 5 or 6 in Iowa. It would require $3,000 to $4,000 to host the VIP Dinner. Gary Fike moved to host the dinner. Roger Brummett seconded it and the motion passed.
The P & S report was given by John Creswell. The policy handbook has been recently revised and will be on the web. Tim Eggers was recently elected to the council. P & S continues to look at retirement issues.
Frank Holdmeyer and John Otte from Wallace's Farmer were introduced as our state sponsors for the Communication awards. There were only 12 entries. Winners were Bob Dodds, Gary Bickmeier, James Jensen, Pat Derdzinski, Ralph Mayer, Lee Gruenhaupt, and Dan Burkhart. The report was given by Gary Fike.
The Extension Programs Committee report was given by Ron Bower. The state winners were Jim Jensen in crop production, Paul Brown in Farm Financial Management, Jim Jensen in Environmental Protection, Bob Dodds in Excellence in Forestry, and Tony Harvey in Livestock Production.
There was not a Resource and Program Development report.
The Public Relations committee commended Neil Wubben on the effort that had gone into the meeting with the commodity groups.
4 H & Youth didn't have a report. Dale Miller reported that the Professional Training had no applications. Scholarship applications are due by June 1st. Chris Nelson reported that the Professional Excellence would be represented with a poster session by George Cummins and Neil Wubben at the national meeting. The life members had no report.
John Creswell reported that he had 38 people pre-registered for the June 26 NACAA tour. It would probably include Pioneer Seeds and focus on biotechnology and Value Added.
President Wubben recognized Jim Hill as the official Web Master. Jack Van Laar reported that they would have an Ertl tractor for the national auction along with a pen and pencil set.
Dan Burkhart reported on committee membership and encouraged all members to apply as there are several new committee positions available. He also reported on the Duck Hunting trip and asked that those that paid $10 let him know if they are interested in going on the trip. He will draw a name from the hat to determine the winner.
Ideas were discussed regarding how we might raise the funds for the VIP dinner at Nebraska. It was decided that we would sell the Extension painting form Minnesota and raffle off several items. They may include a TV, shotgun, Clover Clock, and wood carving. Dale Thorsen moved and Elton Tophoj seconded that we have a system wide raffle. It was suggested that we contact the other two organizations and see if they would like to donate prizes for the raffle. Dick McClure moved and John Creswell seconded that we raise our dues by ten dollars for the next two years to help pay for the VIP dinner. Motion carried.
There was discussion on the ISUEA / CEP proposal. President Wubben commented on the need for a budget committee when the new organization kicks in.
Wendy Wintersteen commented on the hard work this past year, the success of Strategic Advantage, great EAP and Manure meetings. She also commented on the updated Extension Calendar and the need to do program evaluations.
Stan Johnson also had several comments. Extension 21 will provide new monies. We are continuing to build statewide support for Extension. Administration is redefining the Area Directors job description. We need to pay more attention to our image. Need to be seen working with the "front end", not the "back end".
The elections were announced. Kelvin Leibold was elected President. Pat Derdzinski was elected Secretary Treasurer and Gary Fike was elected Vice President elect. Kelvin Leibold, Pat Derdzinski, and Neil Wubben were elected voting delegates with Jack Van Laar as the alternate.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 9:20 PM.
