4-H Youth Area Recognition Opportunities
(Posted on 11/4/2008)
Each year 4-H’ers from 17 Central Iowa counties are invited to participate in the Central Area Recognition, in which they apply for recognition in up to two project areas, the Iowa 4-H Tech Team, State Council, National Conference, or National Congress. To apply a 4-H’er must complete up to five pages of support material that tells about the experience, information learned, citizenship, leadership and communication in the area they applied for. Pictures of 4-H’er working in the area of the application should be included in the five pages. Three copies of the application and support material should be turned in to the Extension office by February 2. It will be evaluated by three judges. The Recognition Opportunities form gives age requirements and more information about each recognition. The Organizing and Designing Support Material form will help you get started at organizing your support material. On March 7th, at United Community School between Ames and Boone on Hwy. 30, applicants will be interviewed by the same three judges who read the support material. Interviews will last 10 minutes. The interview can be video-taped, if 4-H’er is unable to attend. The snow date is March 14th. If you have a question about the recognition process, please contact Doni at the Marshall County Extension office. 752-1551.
