APPENDIX B. GUTHRIE COUNTY GROUP MEETING NOTES *

One gentleman had adapted his bathroom with grab bars because his wife was in a wheelchair. They also were aware of other alterations that could be made in their homes to make it easier for them to use. They were also willing to ask for suggestions about things that could make their homes better suited for their needs. However, the bathroom seemed to be a problem area that many had not made accessible for their needs in their increasing years.

In the discussion group we listened to in Guthrie County, they talked about the physical limitations they faced as elderly individuals. However, all those that we talked to seemed to be able to maintain their normal life styles in spite of these limitations. Many discussed the limitations either getting in and out of the bathtubs. To solve this problem they had adapted various methods for dealing with these problems to allow them to continue with their activities.
