Test Preparation for Private Pesticide Applicators

in East-Central and Southeast Iowa

Welcome!

Iowa State University has prepared several avenues by which you can prepare to take the test to become a Private Pesticide Applicator. ("Certified private applicator" means a certified applicator who uses or supervises the use of any pesticide which is classified for restricted use on property owned or rented by the applicator or the applicator's employer or, if applied without compensation other than trading of personal services between producers of agricultural commodities, on the property of another person. Iowa Code, Chapter 206.2) If you wish to fumigate, you must also pass the test for commercial fumigators; this is due to the great danger involved with fumigation.

The first avenue is a book, which is available at each Iowa State University Extension office at a cost of $15.00. Ask for PAT-1 "Private Pesticide Applicator Study Guide." You may also order it directly using the order form (Adobe Acrobat Reader Adobe
Acrobat Reader Logo is required.) .

The second avenue is a video tape (November 2000 but still current) that is available in each Iowa State University Extension office. Most offices have only one copy of the tape, so it is advised that you not wait until the day before testing to request the video tape. Ask for the video tape "Private Pesticide Applicator Test Training." The tape goes hand-in-hand with the study guide discussed above.

Because of the excellent quality of the video tape, the live presentations have been discontinued for the winter of 2003 - 2004.

Testing dates and locations are scattered around the state throughout the year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Iowa State University Extension Office.
