Sugar Beet Field Day

 

 

Where:     Muscatine Island Research Farm, 111 North St., Fruitland, IA

 

When:      Thursday, September 25, 2008, registration 1:30 p.m. 

 

What:         A special field day featuring a potential new crop for SE Iowa: bioenergy sugar beets. This will be a unique opportunity to observe field-grown sugar beets and learn about production methods from experienced researchers. There will also be an overview of investigations into other “sugar” crops by Dr. Emily Heaton. Rick Whittaker will report on progress and future plans of the Heartland Renewal Energy ethanol plant in Muscatine.

Welcome and review of 2008 sugar beet growing experience at the Southeast and Muscatine Island Research Farms

Directions to the Muscatine Island Research and Demonstration Farm:
The farm is located at 111 North Street in Fruitland, IA 52749-9377. From Highway 61, turn east (left if you are southbound, right if you are northbound) on Fruitland Road (south of the airport), which becomes North Street at the Fruitland city limits. The farm is on the south (right) side of North Street.
