FOR YOUR CALENDAR

Planning for the 2006 crop year is in full swing.  To assist producers and those who work with producers through the planning process, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension will be conducting several meetings for producers and those who work with producers.  I'll provide a brief overview of several; more details are available at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/Pages/eccrops/meet.html. In addition, these and other agricultural educational opportunities in east-central and southeast Iowa do or will soon appear on the ISU Extension calendar at http://dbs.extension.iastate.edu/calendar/ShowCalendar.asp?Category=1%7CAgriculture+and+Natural+Resources&County=Cedar&CountiesScope=Admin.

Ag Chemical Dealers Meeting, November 22, 2005 in Iowa City.  This all-day meeting is designed for dealers and consultants, but producers are more than welcome.  Information on weed, insect, and disease management will be provided as well as a corn management update.  The fee is $60.00, including meals, breaks, and materials.  Continuing Instruction Course credit for Commercial Pesticide Applicators will be available.  In addition, Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Certified Crop Advisors (CCA) will be available.

Integrated Crop Management (ICM) Conference, November 30 - December 1, 2005 in Ames.  This two-day meeting is designed for dealers, consultants, and progressive producers.  There will be 36 workshops offered, of which you can select 12.  The fee is $225, which includes CCA CEUs, meals, breaks, and materials.  Commercial Pesticide Applicators may receive Continuing Instruction Course credits for an additional $10.

Crop Advantage, January 4, 2006 in West Burlington and January 5, 2006 in Cedar Rapids.  These all-day meetings are designed for progressive crop producers, but dealers and consultants are more than welcome to attend.  The opening sessions will feature Elwynn Taylor with the 2006 Crop Weather Update and Roger Elmore with Corn Management: Facts and Myths.  Following the opening sessions, a series of concurrent workshops will be offered; participants may select which workshops they wish to attend.  The fee is $30 ($40 if less than 7 days before the meeting), including meals, breaks, and materials.  Private Pesticide Applicators may receive Continuing Instruction Course credit if they attend a pest (weed, insect, or disease) management session some time during the day, attend a special one-hour session at the end of the day (3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.), and pay the additional $15 fee for Continuing Instruction Courses.  In addition, Continuing Education Units will be available for Certified Crop Advisors for an additional fee of $25.

Corn & Soybean Classic, January 12, 2006, in Moline, IL.  This is an all-day opportunity for those of us in eastern Iowa to get the perspective of the folks from the University of Illinois.  If you historically appreciated the Bi-state Crops Clinics in the Quad Cities, you should consider this opportunity, which is designed for producers, dealers, and consultants.  The fee is $35 ($50 after January 4), which includes meals, breaks, and materials.  Continuing Education Units for Certified Crop Advisors will be available.

Quad Cities Farm Show, January 15 - 17, 2006 in Rock Island.  Illinois Extension will again be coordinating the educational seminars.  As details are finalized, they will appear at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/Pages/eccrops/meet.html.
