Frank MooreProducer: Frank Moore

Location: Cresco, Howard County

Soil Region: 3, Northeast Iowa Surface

ILF Demonstration: No-tillage compared to ridge-tillage

Bio: Frank has been farming for over 30 years. He farms 1,500 acres and is an independent crop consultant as well as a chairman for Howard Soil and Water Conservation District. Although his parents didn’t grow up farming - his father purchased his first farm in 1969 and another several years later - it is a part of Frank. His understanding of what conservation farming means is high, having once worked for IDALS as an environmental specialist. As a crop consultant he helps other producers manage manure resources on their farms.

Frank resides in Howard County, “conservation capital” of the state, where several farmers have been recognized for their conservation farming efforts by IDALS and Farm Bureau. He and his father were honored as Iowa Conservation Farmers of the Year in 1988.

Building a Culture of Conservation:
“I am 100 percent no-till because it allows me to farm more acres on my own.  A decade ago, I couldn’t have considered farming 1,500 acres.”
