ILF Demonstration: No-tillage compared to field cultivation

Bio: John farms corn grain and seed soybeans using various conservation practices including no-tillage, grass waterways and creek buffers. He was motivated to switch to no-till to save the soil along with the added benefits of time, labor and input savings. In switching to no-till, he was challenged to rethink weed control and dealt with soil temperature. But modifications were made and challenges were overcome.

John is also on a local retirement housing board, and is a member of the Iowa Corn Growers Association.

Building a Culture of Conservation: “The good Lord gave us a perfect seedbed, if we just leave it alone. We put value in conservation systems because we want the land to be in good or better shape for the next generation as when we found it.”
