Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management students and faculty, past and present, met for a reunion at the Food Service Management Education Council (FSMEC) recently in Oxford, Mississippi. Katie Wilson (PhD 2007), Executive Director of the National Institute for Foodservice Management, which is housed at Ole Miss, hosted the group at her home. Chef Cyndie Story (PhD 2008) prepared a variety of pizzas. These were enjoyed by current HRIM faculty Catherine Strohbehn (PhD 1991), Susan Arendt (PhD, 2004) and her family, and doctoral student and teaching assistant Nathan Stokes. Former ISU HRIM Department Head Mary Gregoire also attended, along with current Kansas State faculty JuneHee Kwon (PhD, 1999) and Kevin Roberts (BS, 1999 and MS, 2002) with his wife and baby daughter. Beth Rice (PhD, 2007) who is a faculty member at Murray State and Carol Longley (2007), assistant professor at Western Illinois, enjoyed the evening and catching up on ISU HRIM News.
In keeping with the conference theme of March Madness: Winning Educational Strategies, Arendt and Strohbehn shared information about the SafeFood© Motivators Tool Kit. Wilson, Story and Kwon were also featured speakers at the meeting.
The meeting also serves as the transition for new officers to begin their duties for the next two years. Arendt begins her term on the Nominating Committee and Strohbehn assumes responsibilities as Assistant Editor of the Newsletter.
